WIRAND® FIBRES - FLOORING
The use of steel fibres in the construction of concrete floors has a number of distinct advantages over traditional methods such as mesh reinforcement.
Steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) has improved behaviour in a number of areas such as shrinkage cracking, impact resistance, energy absorption and temperature variations which produces a more ductile and less permeable material.
In terms of SFRC flooring construction, joint spacing can be increased, the section is uniformly reinforced throughout its thickness, because there is no placing and cutting of mesh, time and money are saved as well as a reduction in thickness.
WIRAND® FIBRES - SHOTCRETE
The use of steel fibres in spayed concrete offers a number of advantages to traditional methods of spraying onto mesh reinforcement such as -
- Improved toughness
- Reduction in shrinkage cracking
- Reduction in lining thickness
- Reduction in the rebound of the concrete
- Reduction in construction time.
The fibres can be used in the two types of spraying methodology -
- Dry mix method – water added during projection
- Wet mix method – water added to concrete mix before projection.
WIRAND® FIBRES - TUNNELS
Wirand® steel fibres can be used in shotcreting (see above) or in precast tunnel segments where they partially substitute the conventional reinforcing bars.
FIBROMAC FR - TUNNELS
The Fibromac FR mono-filament polypropylene fibre was specifically developed for the fire protection of concrete structures and provides the necessary fire resistance to concrete to extend the required time frame for emergency operations in the case of hydrocarbon fires within a tunnel.
