To control the movement of sediment

Silt Socks, or "sand sausages", are used on building and construction sites to control the movement of sediment.

The movement of sediment is a key part of a projects Erosion and Sediment Control Plan these days, as contractors are required by laws to prevent the movement of sediment off their sites. Any sediment that moves off-site typically ends up in stormwater drains, thereby clogging the stormwater system and moving oils, heavy metals and other hydrocarbons off the sites and into the waterways.

Silt Socks  are available in lengths of 1m, 2m, or 50m rolls, and are filled with sand to create small check-dams around stormwater inlets, adjacent to silt fences, entracens to site etc.

The International Erosion Control Association (Australasian Chapter) is active in promoting the use of erosion and sediment control techniques, and provides training and other activities throughout Australia. The IECA (Australasia) can provide technical support in recommending the correct product for your application.
